What is your position on the Book of Jashar? I have seen that some Messianic people consider it to be legitimate, perhaps even Scripture. This disturbs me.
When many people read the Bible, one of the biggest mistakes that can be made is reading it as though it were written directly to a person living in the Twenty-First Century. Whether we consciously realize it or not, the events of the Bible not only took place in another century, another part of the world, and in another culture—but in different centuries, different parts of the world, and different cultures.
Messianic Apologetics editor John McKee discusses a very complicated subject matter: ranging from various bodies of extra-Biblical materials commonly employed for interpreting Scripture, to what many might consider questioning the “sufficiency of Scripture.”
Does extra-Biblical literature—ranging from Ancient Near Eastern mythology, classical Greco-Roman works, Second Temple and post-Second Temple Jewish works, and early Christians writings—have any role to play in our theology?
