I have heard many Messianic people claim that the Torah existed before Mount Sinai, and that Abraham kept it. To what degree is this actually true?

I have been told by some that the only commandments Gentiles are supposed to follow are the seven Noahide laws. I have then been told by others that the seven Noahide laws are an invention of later Judaism, and were not from the Biblical period. Can you please help me with this?
